CSU Column Foundation job at EPF OML 13 Sterling Global Akwa Ibom State

Our CSU (Central Separation Unit) Column Foundation job at the Early Production Facility (EPF), OML 13, executed by Sterling Global in Akwa Ibom State, is a critical civil and structural engineering activity designed to provide a stable and durable support system for the CSU column, a key process equipment within the production facility. The foundation was engineered to safely transfer static and dynamic loads from the column to the subsoil while ensuring long-term structural integrity, operational safety, and compliance with oil and gas industry standards.

Site Preparation and Setting Out
The job commenced with detailed site surveying, setting out, and verification of foundation coordinates in line with approved engineering drawings. The work area was cleared, leveled, and prepared to provide safe access for personnel and equipment. Temporary barricading, signage, and HSE controls were implemented to ensure safe execution within the live EPF environment.

Excavation and Subgrade Preparation
Excavation was carried out to the specified depth and dimensions, taking into account soil conditions and design requirements. The excavated base was inspected and compacted to achieve the required bearing capacity. Where necessary, blinding concrete was placed to provide a clean, level working surface and protect the foundation base from contamination.

Reinforcement and Formwork Installation
High-yield steel reinforcement was cut, bent, and fixed in accordance with structural drawings and bar bending schedules. Proper spacing, cover, anchorage, and alignment were ensured to meet design and durability requirements. Formwork was installed using rigid, well-braced materials to achieve accurate dimensions, surface finish, and structural stability during concrete placement.

Anchor Bolts and Embedded Items
Anchor bolts, templates, and embedded plates for the CSU column base were accurately positioned and securely fixed prior to concreting. Precise alignment and elevation control were maintained to ensure seamless installation of the CSU column during the mechanical erection phase.

Concrete Pouring and Curing
Concrete of the specified grade was batched, transported, and poured under strict quality control measures. Slump tests, cube tests, and visual inspections were conducted to verify concrete quality. Proper vibration was applied to eliminate voids and achieve full compaction. After pouring, the foundation was cured using approved methods to attain the required strength and durability.

Backfilling and Compaction
Upon achieving the specified concrete strength and removal of formwork, the foundation was backfilled in layers with suitable material and compacted to the required density. The finished area was leveled and reinstated to ensure proper drainage and accessibility.

Quality Assurance, HSE, and Completion
All activities were executed in compliance with approved method statements, project specifications, and HSE requirements. Continuous inspections and documentation ensured adherence to quality standards. Upon completion, the CSU column foundation provided a robust and reliable structural base, supporting safe installation and long-term operation of the CSU at the EPF, OML 13 facility.

This job contributed significantly to the successful development and operational readiness of the production facility under Sterling Global’s scope in Akwa Ibom State.
